Electric Chain Hoist Material is lifted or lowered using electric chain hoists. To lift, lower, and accelerate or slow the speed of the hoist, an electric motor and controller are used. During hoisting or lowering, all chain hoists provide pure vertical lift, which means the load does not move away from the hoist center-line. Electric chain hoists can be reeved in single or twin-fall configurations. The chain passes directly from the lifting device to the hook with a single-fall chain hoist. A pulley is positioned in the bottom block of a double-reeved chain hoist. The chain is hooked to the housing and runs back to it.
